Final Promise of Obedience in Montréal
On Sunday, November 1, the Solemnity of All Saints, in the Chapel of the Order of Malta at Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral-Basilica in Montréal, Major François Caron (retired Canadian Forces) made his final Promise of Obedience as a Knight in Obedience, the Second Class of the Order of Malta. Caron was invested as a Knight of Magistral Grace in 2015, and made his first temporary Promise of Obedience in 2023. Fra’ Mathieu Dupont, Knight of Justice, received the Promise of Obedience, as delegate for the Prince and Grand Master Fra’ John Dunlap. His Excellency Bishop Raymond Poisson, Bishop of Saint-Jérôme–Mont-Laurier, Chief Chaplain for Canada, and His Excellency Bruce Adams, President of the Canadian Association were also present.
According to the 2022 Code of the Order, “The Members of the Second Class commit themselves to a more intense pious life according to the rules that apply to them. Conscious of the spiritual value of such commitment before God, they must diligently observe the divine law and the precepts of the Church, so as to be a constant example of piety and virtue, of apostolic zeal and of devotion to the Holy Church.
There are two other members of the Second Class in the Canadian Association: Mark Dunphy and Teresa McCullough. Several other members are making their preparation year for the Promise of Obedience.
