World Humanitarian Aid Day: Order of Malta serving the most vulnerable

18/08/2025

Wars, climate disasters, famines, forced migrations: faced with an increasingly complex global scenario, humanitarian aid remains a lifeline for millions of people. On World Humanitarian Aid Day, which is being celebrated tomorrow, the Order of Malta draws attention to the vital importance of a rapid, coordinated and humane response to the crises that continue to affect the most vulnerable populations.

In 2024 the Order of Malta, through all its various national associations and international entities, offered healthcare, psychological support, food aid and access to drinking water to over 7 million people. A commitment that confirms the Order’s thousand-year mission to stand by those who suffer, without distinction of origin, religion or social condition.

Malteser International, the Order of Malta’s international relief agency, has carried out 152 projects in 36 countries, reaching 7.2 million beneficiaries with a global investment of approximately €74.5 million. The healthcare sector remains the core of the activities: 4.8 million people have received medical care, 663 health facilities have been supported and 51,000 malnourished children under five have benefited from life-saving nutrition therapies. Also Ordre de Malte France, the Order of Malta’s national association, has continued to intensity its humanitarian action in 33 countries, thanks to the tireless work of some 14,000 volunteers active in over 100 delegations. In 2024, 700,000 people were assisted, including 1,400 accepted in its healthcare facilities and 250,000 treated in its international clinics and hospitals.
