The Order of Malta mourns the passing of Fra’ Jean-Louis Mainguy

The Grand Master Fra’ John Dunlap joins the grief of the family and the Lebanese Association of the Order of Malta for the loss of Fra’ Jean-Louis Mainguy, who returned to the house of the Father late in the evening of the 14th of August. At the funeral, celebrated on Monday 18 August, the Grand Master was represented by the President of the Association, Marwan Sehnaoui.

The President of the Republic of Lebanon Gen. Joseph Aoun, and the Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, were represented by the Minister of Culture Ghassan Salamé. In the name of the President of the Republic, he received a post-mortem decoration: Knight of the National Order of the Cedar.

The Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water Joseph Saddi and the representative of the French Ambassador to Lebanon were also present at the funeral.

In remembering him, Fra’ John Dunlap said: “Fra’ Jean-Louis was a model of faith, dedication, and service, with the title of the first Professed Knight in Lebanon and a resident knight in Malta. His tireless commitment to the service of the Order and his noble spirit will remain etched in our hearts.”

Born in Beirut in 1953, he became a member of the Order of Malta in 2007, taking his solemn vows in 2014. The only Professed Knight from the Middle East, he served as a counselor of the Lebanese Association until his passing. Since 2023, he had been a Resident Knight in Fort Sant’Angelo on Malta.

The Grand Master invites all Confreres, Knights, and Dames of the Order of Malta to offer prayers for the repose of his soul.
