Insignia of Bailiff Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion conferred on Cardinal Calcagno

Today, Friday 26 September, in the Magistral Chapel, the Grand Master Fra’ John T. Dunlap has admitted to the Sovereign Order of Malta, with dignity and rank of Bailiff Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion, Cardinal Domenico Calcagno, President emeritus of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See.
The ceremony was attended by Fra’ Emmanuel Rousseau, Grand Commander, Fra’ Francis J. Vassallo, Receiver of the Common Treasure, Fra’ Nicola Tegoni, member of the Sovereign Council, Antonio Zanardi Landi, Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Holy See, Alessandro Pompili, Counselor of the Embassy of the Order to the Holy See, Mons. Marco Ceccarelli, Ecclesiastic Counsellor of the Embassy of the Order of Malta to the Holy See.
Cardinal Domenico Calcagno, born in Tramontana di Parodi Ligure on 3 February 1943, is President emeritus of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See and Member of the Dicastery for Evangelization.
He was ordained a priest in Genova in 1967, after completing his philosophical and theological training at the Pontifical Gregorian University and obtaining a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a doctorate in dogmatic theology.
On 25 January 2002 he was appointed Bishop of Savona-Noli and received episcopal ordination on 9 March 2002 by the Archbishop of Genoa, Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi.
In 2007 he was appointed Archbishop and secretary of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See and was appointed President of the same department in 2011.
He was created and proclaimed Cardinal by Benedict XVI in the Consistory of 18 February 2012.
