Joris Assueer Marie van Voorst tot Voorst, new member of Sovereign Council

At the session of 5 December 2025, the Prince and Grand Master and the Sovereign Council of the Order of Malta co-opted Joris Assueer Marie, Baron van Voorst tot Voorst, Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion in Obedience, as a member of the Sovereign Council.

Joris Baron van Voorst tot Voorst, who took his oath at the council meeting on 6 February 2026, was born in 1954 in The Hague and has worked in the government sector and in consultancy on environmental and spatial planning matters.

For nearly 15 years, he was Director of the Pontifical Foundation Aid to the Church in Need in the Netherlands, which supports Christians in pastoral need or persecuted for their faith.

Joris van Voorst, Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion in Obedience, joined the Order of Malta in 1992. For many years, he served as Director of the Dutch Association’s Pilgrimage to Lourdes and held the position of President of the Association for the past seven years.
